On 23 February, the launch ceremony of the study tour programme for teachers and students from Jinping and Malipo of Yunnan to Hong Kong was successfully held at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Present at the event were around 60 participants, including Mr Cui Jianchun, Commissioner of the Office; Mr Philip Liao, Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club; Mr Hua You, Deputy Commissioner of the Office; Mr Wan Ning, Deputy Director of the Youth Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR; representatives from the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province, as well as teachers and students joining the study tour.

In his address, Commissioner Cui introduced Hong Kong’s modern and contemporary history and its journey from governance to prosperity, highlighting the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems” in Hong Kong. He stressed that the study tour was made possible with the continuous care, guidance and arrangement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and competent authorities, as well as the wholehearted dedication and full support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He encouraged the students to seize the opportunity to acquire knowledge, broaden their horizons and set high aspirations, turning what they see, hear and feel into motivation for growth, so as to make greater contributions to the country in the future.

Chairman Liao thanked the Office of the Commissioner for its long-term trust and support. He stated that the study tour marked the beginning of a bond and friendship, and represented the warmest achievement and most precious harvest in the long-term cooperation between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Office of the Commissioner. He encouraged the teachers and students from Yunnan to deeply experience Hong Kong’s vitality and charm, visit campuses and neighbourhoods, explore cultural landmarks, make new friends, and jointly build a “bridge of friendship”.

The students raised questions freely and interacted enthusiastically with the guests, creating a lively atmosphere. Lasting from 23 February to 1 March, the study tour covers exchange activities in education, culture, tourism, art and media. A total of 30 secondary school students from seven ethnic groups — Han, Miao, Yao, Yi, Zhuang, Dai and Hani — are taking part.
