Recently, the European Parliament passed a so-called "resolution on the conviction and imminent sentencing of Jimmy Lai in Hong Kong" and annual report on the implementation of the common foreign and security policy. Disregarding facts and distorting the truth, it blatantly slandered Hong Kong's One Country, Two Systems principle as well as Hong Kong National Security Law and Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, openly interfered in the trial of Hong Kong's national security case, smeared the democracy and rule-of-law in Hong Kong, and clamored for sanctions against Hong Kong. In response, the spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong expressed strong condemnation and firm opposition, and emphasized the following:

 1. The trial of Hong Kong's national security cases is an internal affair of Hong Kong SAR, and Hong Kong's judiciary brooks no interference. The European Parliament blatantly trampled on the spirit of the rule of law, made irresponsible remarks during the trial of Lai Chee-ying case, and attempted to interfere in the Hong Kong judicial institutions' lawful handling of the case through political pressure. This constitutes serious interference in Hong Kong's judiciary and a serious violation of the principles including non-interference in internal affairs as a basic norm of international law and international relations.

 2. Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law, and no one has the privilege of being above the law. Lai Chee-ying is a major mastermind and participant of the anti-China riots in Hong Kong and an agent and pawn of external anti-China forces. His crimes endangering national security are clear and heinous, the evidence is conclusive, and the harm he has caused is profound. The trial process was open and transparent, and the Hong Kong judiciary rendered a fair conviction verdict based on substantial and sufficient factual evidence, which is beyond reproach.

 3. Since the return of Hong Kong, the One Country, Two Systems principle has achieved universally recognized success. Hong Kong National Security Law and Safeguarding National Security Ordinance have further solidified the foundation for the steady and long-term implementation of One Country, Two Systems, and have safeguarded high-quality development with high-level security. No matter how external interference forces smear, clamor, or exert pressure, they cannot shake the Chinese Government's determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, nor can they change our will to comprehensively, accurately, and unwaveringly implement the One Country, Two Systems policy and stop Hong Kong's development trend from governance to prosperity.

 4. Hong Kong affairs are entirely China's internal affairs. No external force has the right to interfere in, and no country or organization has the right to meddle in. No matter how many so-called "resolutions" or "reports" the European Parliament make regarding Hong Kong, they are nothing but waste papers. We urge relevant European politicians to recognize reality, correct their mistakes, earnestly abide by the principles of international law and the basic norms of international relations, and immediately cease interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs in any form.
