On July 27, the sharing session of the 2nd “Belt and Road” Visit Programme for Young Hong Kong International Legal Talents was held by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR. Mr. Cui Jianchun, Commissioner of the Office, and Mr. Zhang Changwei, Deputy Commissioner, together with Mr. Paul Lam Ting-kwok, Secretary for Justice, and Ms. Zhang Yumei, Deputy Director of the Legal Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, attended the Session. Also present were representatives from the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, international legal organisations and legal professional bodies based in Hong Kong, as well as participants of this Visit Programme.

The participants shared their experiences gained from the visit to Kunming and Malipo in Yunnan Province, as well as Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos. They stated that this visit deepened their understanding of national conditions and broadened their international vision, enabling them to better serve the rule-of-law development of the country and the HKSAR.

Commissioner Cui encouraged young legal talents to translate what they had seen and learnt into practical actions and give full play to their professional strengths to serve the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam fully recognised the positive value of this programme and stated that the Department of Justice would keep rendering support to the Commissioner’s Office to build exchange platforms for young Hong Kong international legal talents.

Deputy Commissioner Zhang Changwei led a delegation of 20 young legal talents from Hong Kong on a visit to Yunnan Province and Laos between July 18 and July 24.
