Message of Condolences
Mrs. Betty Tung Chiu Hung-ping, wife of Mr. Tung Chee-hwa:
It is with the deepest sorrow that we learned of the passing of Mr. Tung Chee-hwa. Please accept our profound condolences and heartfelt sympathies.
Mr. Tung Chee-hwa was an outstanding contributor to the cause of "One Country, Two Systems," a renowned patriot, and a distinguished public figure, who made major historic contributions to Hong Kong's smooth return to the motherland and stable transition, as well as to the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems."
Mr. Tung was an important practitioner and champion of the external exchanges and cooperation of both the country and the HKSAR. In conducting external affairs, he firmly upheld China's sovereignty, security, and development interests. He vigorously advanced Hong Kong's external affairs, demonstrated to the international community the successful practice of "One Country, Two Systems," and helped consolidate Hong Kong's standing as an international financial, trade, and shipping center. He cultivated extensive friendships at home and abroad, actively built platforms for people-to-people diplomacy, and made significant contributions to the opening-up of the country and the HKSAR to the outside world and to strengthening the friendship between the Chinese people and peoples of other countries.
Mr. Tung's ardent patriotism and exemplary conduct will live on, forever commanding our deepest respect and remembrance.
May you find comfort amid your grief and take good care of yourself in these trying times.
