On March 3, a briefing on the White Paper “Hong Kong: Safeguarding China’s National Security Under the Framework of One Country, Two Systems” was held at the Commissioner’s Office. Commissioner Cui Jianchun delivered a keynote speech. About 130 people attended the briefing, including consuls general and consuls from more than 50 foreign consulates, over 10 heads of foreign chambers of commerce in Hong Kong, heads of several international organizations or their Hong Kong offices, and nearly 30 Chinese and foreign media reporters.
Commissioner Cui gave a comprehensive introduction to the main content and significance of the White Paper, recalled the fights for safeguarding national security in Hong Kong, clarified the central government's fundamental responsibility for national security matters concerning Hong Kong and HKSAR's achievements in fulfilling its constitutional responsibility for safeguarding national security, explained a historic transformation from disorder to stability and prosperity with marked achievements in governance, the rule of law, and economy etc., and also shared the practical requirements of safeguarding national security under the framework of One Country, Two Systems.
The attendees responded positively, finding the briefing rich in content and Commissioner Cui's explanations detailed and insightful. They felt that the briefing would help to gain a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of the principles and practices of safeguarding national security in Hong Kong under the framework of One Country, Two Systems. They agreed that the White Paper, using facts and data, reinforced international confidence that Hong Kong would maintain its unique advantages in a secure environment, and that Hong Kong's high-standard security would definitely help for high-quality development of the One Country, Two Systems Policy.
The Commissioner's Office also held traditional cultural activities for the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival.
