Commissioner Cui emphasized in his speech that the great unification of China has a long history and is deeply rooted in the hearts of the Chinese people. Chinese civilisation is profound, everlasting, open and inclusive. Qin and Han are important dynasties with milestone significance in Chinese history. They created a unitary state system and laid the foundation for the continuous development of Chinese civilisation. Since then, the determination to national unification has been an inherent part of the whole Chinese nation. Realizing the complete national reunification is the shared aspiration of Chinese people both at home and abroad. It is the general historical trend, and is what the Chinese people aspire for. Countries in the world today need to strengthen unity, cooperation and mutual learning among civilisations to jointly safeguard the well-being of the mankind and create a better future.

Deputy Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing and Chairperson of DAB Chan Hak-Kan said that Hong Kong is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture and is a place where the East meets the West. It will continue to protect and inherit China's historical and cultural heritage, promote cultural exchanges among countries, and contribute to the development of human civilisation.
The exhibition is the second programme in the “General History of China Series” of the Hong Kong Museum of History. The invited guests spoke highly of the event and said that they felt the profoundness and influence of Chinese civilisation, and would play an active role to promote dialogue and cultural exchanges among civilisations of various countries.
