On April 24, 2025, Commissioner Cui Jianchun attended at invitation the the annual China Conference hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and delivered an opening speech. About 200 representatives from the business and academic circles of China and the United States, including David Butts, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, and Eden Woon, President of the Chamber, attended the conference.

Commissioner Cui said that President Xi Jinping’s important speech in his meeting with representatives of the international business community and China’s Government Work Report 2025 have released a series of positive signals to the world. First, with strong internal driving forces, China’s economy will continue to grow and China will further expand high-level opening up. Second, Hong Kong’s development maintains unique advantages, and the central government fully and accurately implements the “one country, two systems” policy and supports Hong Kong in enhancing its role in connecting China with the world. Third, China is committed to promoting the stable, healthy and sustainable development of bilateral relations with the United States in principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, but at the same time, China firmly opposes the wrong economic and trade policies of the United States toward China and will firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests and international fairness and justice.

The theme of the Conference is “China Business: Adapting to New Realities”. The guests held discussions around topics such as the prospects for China-US relations, China’s technological development, and opportunities and challenges of doing business in China. They expressed opposition to the abuse of tariffs and technological suppression, and optimism about development opportunities in the mainland of China and Hong Kong.
