On October 22, the Commissioner's Office held fourth group meeting with foreign countries’ diplomatic and consular representatives and HKSAR Government Officials. Acting Commissioner Li Yongsheng, Colombian Ambassador to China Mr. Sergio Cabrera, who was visiting Hong Kong, Consuls General of Latin American countries in Hong Kong, and officials of HKSAR Government attended the event. Deputy Commissioner Mr. Hua You of the Commissioner’s Office and Counselor Mr Wei Wenxiu, Director General of the Consular Department, also attended the activity.

Acting Commissioner Li Yongsheng reviewed outcomes of the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, and spoke highly of the current development status of China-Latin American relations. Li introduced Hong Kong’s unique advantages, pointed out that Hong Kong can leverage on platforms such as the China-CELAC forum to strengthen cooperation with Latin American countries in areas including trade and commerce, people-to-people exchanges, education and technology under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Consuls General fully acknowledged the achievements of Hong Kong’s economic and social development, extended appreciation to the Commissioner’s Office and SAR government for supporting their work. Consuls General said they have carried out duties smoothly and lived comfortably in Hong Kong, expressed willingness to seize opportunities, fulfill duties diligently, and translate the cooperation potentials between Latin American countries and Hong Kong into tangible outcomes.

SAR Officials stated that Hong Kong regards Latin-American countries as important partners and will continue to give full play to its institutional advantages of "One Country, Two Systems". Hong Kong will play the important role of “super-connector” and “super value-adder” to share development dividends with all Latin American countries.

The participants also exchanged views on other topics of common interest.
