On September 22, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York. Expressing satisfaction with the continuous enrichment of the substance of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, the two sides agreed to act upon the important common understanding reached by the two heads of state, and work toward the building of a China-Indonesia community with a shared future by further deepening practical cooperation in various fields.

The two sides exchanged views on the G20 Bali Summit. Noting the negative spillover effects of the Ukraine crisis and the grave risks of global economic recession, Wang Yi stressed the importance for major developed countries and emerging economies to take the Bali Summit as an opportunity to strengthen policy coordination and cooperation to bring hope to global recovery. They also expressed the hope that Indonesia, as the rotating presidency, will play a leadership role in encouraging all parties to stay focused on their original aspirations, maintain solidarity, and make development the centerpiece of their endeavor, and in steering the summit to reach consensus on pressing issues such as food, climate, energy, and supply chains. China fully supports Indonesia in hosting the summit and is ready to coordinate closely with Indonesia to ensure positive outcomes of the summit.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Myanmar issue. Wang Yi said that China supports Indonesia in taking over the rotating chair of ASEAN next year, sticking to the "ASEAN Way", maintaining ASEAN solidarity, and encouraging all parties in Myanmar to engage in consultation and dialogue and reach political consensus within the framework of its constitution and laws.
