Commissioner’s Office: Safeguarding national security brooks no finger-pointing and external interference is bound to fail
2024-05-30 21:54

The spokesperson of the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR expressed strong disapproval and firm opposition tothe comments made by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, the European External Action Service spokesperson, and the Consulate General of the United States and the United Kingdom in Hong Kongonthe verdict over the “conspiring to subvert state power” case made by the Hong Kong High Court in accordance with law. They slandered Hong Kong's democracy, freedom, human rights and the rule of law, discredited Hong Kong's status as an international financial center, whitewashed anti-China elements in Hong Kong, and interfered with the judiciary of the SAR.

The spokesperson pointed out that no one can engage in illegal activities in the name of democracy and attempt to get impunity. Relevant anti-China forces conspired to use the so-called “primary election” to seize control of the Legislative Council, paralyze the SAR Government, and destroy or overturn the existing political system and structure of the Hong Kong SAR established by the Basic Law and the principle of "one country, two systems".Hong Kong judiciary handlethe case in accordance with law andwork hard to prevent, stop and punish acts endangering national security, which are legitimate and necessary, brook no foreign interference and the Chinese Central Government firmly supports it.

The spokesperson said that the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Safeguarding National SecurityOrdinance have effectively plugged Hong Kong’s legal loopholes in safeguarding national security and removed obstacles to Hong Kong's development. At present, Hong Kong's economic development is back on the right track, governance has been improved, and various industries have enjoyed a good momentum of development. A few politicians in certain countries are playing dumb about the fact that their national security legislation is airtight and they themselves abuse the concept of national security. They openly trample on the rule of law in Hong Kong, their hypocrisy is beneath contempt, and their sinister intentions to interfere in Hong Kong's affairs and China's internal affairs arelaid bare.

The spokesperson stressed that theChineseCentral Government is determined to fully and accurately implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests. Any attempt to subvert state power willfail, and any attempt to interfere in others internal affairs will be in vain. We urge the relevant politicians to abide by the principles of international law and the basic norms governing international relations, to immediately stop meddling in Hong Kong's affairs, to stop condoninganti-Chinaelements in Hong Kong, and to stop undermining the rule of law and judicial independence of the HKSAR.
