Commissioner’s Office: Safeguarding National Security Ordinance brooks no provocation and HKSAR law enforcement brooks no interference
2024-05-30 15:38

The spokesperson of the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR expressed strong disapproval and firm oppositionto the remarks made by the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), EU spokesperson and a few Western politicians about the law enforcement action taken by the Hong Kong police towards Chow Hang-tung and her accomplices. Their remarks smeared the human rights and freedom of speech situation in Hong Kong, slandered Hong Kong's national security law, and interfered with the judiciary of the SAR.

The spokesperson pointed out that Chowis down with an anti-China syndromeand has continued to endanger national securityeven on remand. She teamed up with others to post a series of seditious posts on social media, in a vain attempt to incite public hatred against the Chinese Central Government and the HKSARGovernment, and to instigatepeople to organize or participate in illegal activities. Her actions are suspected of violating the crime of seditious intention stipulated in the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance. The action taken by the Hong Kong police towards relevant personnel in accordance with the Ordinance is a just act to safeguard national security and the rule of law in Hong Kong.

The spokesperson said that the core essence of the rule of law is that laws must be observedand lawbreakers held accountable. There is no absolute freedom in the world. Freedom of speech is not an excuse for illegal activities, and there is no impunity for any speech that challenges national sovereignty and social stability. Some external forcesare playing dumb and have continuouslyshowed support for anti-Chinaforces in Hong Kong. They interfered in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs, and seriously violate the principles of international law and the basic norms governing international relations. Their sinister intentionof disrupting Hong Kongis clear, and their despicable plots are beneath contempt.

The spokesperson stressed that Hong Kong is part of Chinaand Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs, which brook no external interference. Noslander of Hong Kong can change the success of "one country, two systems", and no external intervention can stop the historical trend of Hong Kong's stability and prosperity. Weurgea few countries and politicians to face up to reality, take an objective and impartial position, earnestly respect the rule of law in the SAR, and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs.
