Commissioner’s Office: US politicians’ interference in Hong Kong’s judiciary is in vain
2024-05-10 18:00

The spokesperson of the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR strongly disapproved and firmly rejected irresponsible comments made by the US State Department Spokesperson and members of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the injunction announced by the Court of Appeal of the Hong Kong High Court on the song of “Glory to Hong Kong”, which constitutes a gross interference with Hong Kong’s judiciary.

The spokesperson said that the song, with the aim to incite separatism, hatred and violence, seriously violated Hong Kong's national security law.The Hong Kong SAR Government and the High Court fulfill their constitutional responsibility to safeguard national security and the dignity of the national anthem by preventing the use and dissemination of the song with the intention of inciting secession and insulting the national anthem. That is a legitimate and necessary action to safeguard national sovereignty and security interests, to safeguard Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability, and is in line with the fundamental interests of Hong Kong and the common aspirations of Hong Kong society.

The spokesperson stressed that the comments of US officials and congressmen about Hong Kong's ban on a song that advocates “Hong Kong independence” can only add more examples to their double-dealer nature! History has proved time and again that no external political manipulation or  interference can shake our firm determination to safeguard national security, damage Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, or stop the historical trend of Hong Kong's greater prosperity. We urge certain politicians to correct their mindset, distinguish right from wrong, change course, abide by international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs under any pretext!
