The spokesperson for the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR strongly disapproved and firmly rejected the irresponsible comments made by the Canadian Foreign Ministry, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and a few American and European politicians on Hong Kong police’s actions of issuing warrants for and arresting anti-China forces in Hong Kong, who slandered the rule of law and human rights situation in Hong Kong, and the National Security Law for the HKSAR.

The spokesperson pointed out that upholding and enforcing laws is a core tenet of the rule of law, and safeguarding national security by holding law-breakers accountable is a common practice of all countries. No country will turn a blind eye to collusion that endangers national security, and no criminal who incites hate and separatism can go unpunished. After fleeing overseas, some leading anti-China elements who sell out Hong Kong for vainglory have colluded with foreign anti-China politicians in an attempt to split the country and subvert state power, which challenged the bottom line of the country and the red line of the rule of law. Some local anti-China forces in Hong Kong have been raising “dark funds” for the fugitives and making incitement remarks for “Hong Kong independence”. The facts of their crimes are clear. Hong Kong police’s law enforcement complies with laws, helps safeguard national security, and shall not be meddled with.

The spokesperson pointed out that some Western countries never hesitate to safeguard their national security through legal means, and the number, rigorousness and harshness of their legislation are incomparable. Behind their double standards on security issues are deep-rooted ideological prejudices and the strategic myth of “using Hong Kong to contain China”. Their political manipulation in the name of democracy and human rights is a serious trampling on the spirit of the rule of law!

The spokesperson stressed that no political manipulation and external interference can shake our firm determination to safeguard national security, damage Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, or stop the historical trend of Hong Kong’s good governance. No Hong Kong compatriot will never allow or tolerate the 2019 turbulence to happen again, and all Hong Kong compatriots will safeguard the dignity of the rule of law and national security. We advise the countries and politicians concerned recognize the facts, change their course, immediately stop meddling with Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs, and stop playing the trick of “using Hong Kong to contain China”.
