The spokesperson for the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR strongly rejected and deplored political manipulation of certain politicians of the United States and some missions stationed in Hong Kong, including the consulates general of the United States and Canada. They used rhetoric of human rights as a tool to echo some anti-China forces in Hong Kong and attempt to stir up problems and interfere in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs.

The spokesperson said that the great achievements made in the past seven decades since the founding of the People’s Republic of China fully show that the development path chosen by China is absolutely correct and it has won the firm support of the Chinese people. However, by hyping up an event that has long come to a conclusion, a small number of external forces are obsessed with acting as clowns to throw dirty water on China, put a spoke in the wheel of Hong Kong’s development, and incite antagonism and confrontation. The old trick of ideological infiltration and peaceful evolution has long been seen through. Those who play this trick are just overestimating their own strength and their plots will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

The spokesperson pointed out that a few Western countries have a bad record of human rights themselves, especially the United States. In history, it committed the heinous crimes of genocide and colonialism; today, it faces deep-seated domestic problems such as money politics, racism and huge chasm between the rich and the poor. It has also waged war all over the world, resulting in the displacement of millions of people. Some politicians and missions stationed in Hong Kong have selective amnesia of their own historical sins and poor human rights records, and wantonly attack and interfere in others’ affairs under the guise of “human rights”, which is purely hypocritical, double-standard and ridiculous! With such a botched playbook at hand, the harder they perform in their show, the sooner their nature of political blackmail and hegemony will be exposed.

The spokesperson stressed that today’s China is on a new journey of advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese-style modernization. Today’s Hong Kong is moving from chaos to stability and prosperity along the right track of the practice of “one country, two systems”. Nothing could stop the historical trend and nothing will prevail over the will of the Chinese people. We urge a few external forces and some foreign missions stationed in Hong Kong, including the Consulate General of the United States, to recognize the situation, change course, uphold international law and basic norms governing international relations, abide by the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, and immediately stop futile political manipulation. They must abandon the wishful thinking of disrupting Hong Kong and containing China, and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs in any form, otherwise they will be firmly opposed by the 1.4 billion Chinese people!
