The spokesperson for the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR strongly disapproved and deplored a Hong Kong resolution fabricated by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee and irresponsible rhetoric about Hong Kong made by the US Congressional-Executive Commission on China, which slandered the National Security Law for the HKSAR and the human rights and rule of law in Hong Kong, and showed support for anti-China forces in Hong Kong including Jimmy Lai. These moves only make the world see clearly the true sinister intentions of these politicians to whitewash anti-China elements and to undermine Hong Kong’s rule of law.
The spokesperson pointed out that the practice of “one country, two systems” in Hong Kong is a globally recognized success. It has received strong support from 1.4 billion Chinese people, including Hong Kong residents, and has also been commended by the international community. Under the national security law and the new electoral system, the rule of law in Hong Kong has returned to the right track, and the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents are better protected in a more secure environment. The whole Hong Kong society and international stakeholders know Hong Kong’s new situation and are confident in Hong Kong’s future.
The spokesperson emphasized that the rule of law is the cornerstone of Hong Kong’s long-term prosperity and stability, and Hong Kong society must run on the track of the rule of law. People will not forget that during the 2019 turbulence, activities for Hong Kong independence, black violence and mutual destruction in the form of beating, looting, committing arson and killing went rampant in Hong Kong. At that time, external forces staged a Hong Kong version of “color revolution” in an attempt to separate Hong Kong from the motherland again. People will neither forget that anti-China elements like Jimmy Lai travelling overseas to beg the United States to sanction China and Hong Kong, and even clamor for “fighting for the United States”. These forces must be held accountable for the crimes they committed.
The spokesperson reiterated that certain US politicians are eager to attack China and Hong Kong as long as there are topics they can hype up. They claim to respect the rule of law and judicial independence, but engage in activities that interfere into other’s judicial justice. They claim to uphold human rights and freedom, but tolerate and incite criminal acts that endanger public security. The more these “political liars” repeat their clichés, the clearer their clown nature becomes, and the harder it is to remove their historical stains.
The spokesperson emphasized that the days when external forces could arbitrarily point their fingers at Hong Kong affairs are long gone. The successful practice of “one country, two systems” cannot be distorted or reversed by some narrow-minded and groundless smears. The sustained implementation of “one country, two systems” cannot be stopped by some statements or resolutions. We urge certain US politicians to correct their positions, recognize reality, and immediately stop interfering into and smearing “one country, two systems” and Hong Kong affairs, otherwise they will only be confronted with repeated failures!
